Entdecken Sie Italica; die erste authentisch römische Stadt in Spanien, nur 15 Minuten von Sevilla entfernt. Es wurde 206 v. Chr. vom römischen Feldherrn Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus gegründet und war der Geburtsort zweier römischer Kaiser, Trajan und Hadrian.
Derzeit als Archäologisches Ensemble von Italica bekannt, können Besucher heute einen Spaziergang durch die alten Straßen genießen und die Ruinen der Häuser und öffentlichen Gebäude erkunden. Ein Spektakel, das man gesehen haben muss, ist das Amphitheater. Es hatte eine Kapazität für 25.000 Menschen und war das drittgrößte im Römischen Reich. Weitere wichtige Sehenswürdigkeiten sind die Mosaikböden, das Traianeum, die Statuen von Diana, Venus und Trajan, die öffentlichen Bäder und das teilweise rekonstruierte römische Theater in Santiponce. Dank der Tatsache, dass sich keine der folgenden Zivilisationen auf den Ruinen von Italica niederließ, handelt es sich um eine recht gut erhaltene Stadt, die einen Besuch wert ist.
